[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Kakao Games plans to sell Kakao VX by the end of this year. Following the recent announcement of the separation of the portal service 'Daum,' the officialization of the Kakao VX sale marks an acceleration of the Kakao Group's efforts to streamline its non-core businesses.

In a business report on Wednesday, Kakao Games explained, "We have established a plan for the sale of the golf division, which consists of Kakao VX and its subsidiaries, and expect the plan to be executed within this year."

It added, "As a result, we have classified the assets and liabilities of the golf division as held for sale and classified the operating performance of this business as discontinued operations."

However, it was also mentioned, "We are currently in the process of obtaining approval from minority shareholders to complete this sale, and we believe the likelihood of signing the contract is high."

Kakao VX has been involved in various golf-related businesses, including screen golf, golf reservation platform operation, and golf course management. The company has ventured into combining sports and IT (information technology) but faced efficiency challenges, leading to persistent rumors of a potential sale since last year.

Earlier, on the 13th, Kakao announced plans to spin off its portal service Daum into a separate entity, speeding up the process of restructuring its affiliates. This move comes two years after Daum was transitioned into a Corporate-Incorporated Company (CIC) in 2023, signaling the beginning of a major reshaping of Kakao Group's core businesses.
