[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Hyundai Steel has decided to partially lock out certain cold rolling lines at its Dangjin plant in response to the labor union's guerrilla-style strikes. This marks the first partial lockout in the company's history.
On Monday, the company issued an official notice stating that from noon onwards, the pickling and tandem cold mill (PL/TCM) lines at the No.1 and No.2 cold rolling mills in Dangjin would be shut down. The company cited disruptions in normal production activities and significant operational challenges as the reasons for the decision.
Under South Korea’s Trade Union and Labor Relations Adjustment Act, employers may initiate a lockout once a labor dispute begins, and wages are not required to be paid during the closure.

Since PL/TCM lines are essential for pre-treating hot-rolled steel before cold rolling, their shutdown directly impacts Hyundai Steel’s entire cold-rolled steel production.
