[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] It has been confirmed that chips for infotainment systems (IVI) designed by South Korean fabless (semiconductor design company) Telechips and manufactured by Samsung Electronics have been installed in Hyundai Motor's premium vehicle Genesis. As the competitiveness of semiconductors for vehicles has increased, Hyundai Motor has begun to utilize "domestic" in earnest.

In addition to semiconductors, Samsung SK LG's products are increasingly being adopted by Hyundai Motors regarding key components for vehicles such as displays, batteries, and lighting. Analysts say that South Korea's automotive electronic equipment ecosystem, which has been built around the four major groups, is becoming stronger.

According to industry sources on the 11th, Hyundai Motor's premium vehicle Genesis is equipped with an integrated chipset (SoC) called Dolphin Plus (+) for vehicle infotainment systems (IVI) manufactured by Samsung Electronics' foundry division in a 14-nanometer process. SoC for IVI is a semiconductor that processes real-time driving information in a vehicle. Genesis is responsible for driving the head-up display (HUD). Telechips, a fabless (semiconductor design company), was in charge of the design.

The chip is also known to be included in Hyundai's general car model, not Genesis. It is said that it plays a role in controlling the air conditioning system in ordinary vehicles.

Collaboration among domestic companies in the auto parts business is spreading beyond semiconductors to display, battery, and lighting. For example, the Genesis GV60 electric car includes Samsung Electronics' image sensor and SK On's battery. Ionic 5 is equipped with Samsung Display's Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED) rearview mirror. Most of the dashboard displays of these vehicles are LG Display products.
