[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] Hyundai Motor Group announced that it is developing future advanced technologies such as technology to repair vehicle damage on its own and technology to drastically reduce component wear.

Hyundai Motor and Kia held a "Nano Tech Day 2023" event at Myeong-dong Community House Masil in Jung-gu, Seoul on the 20th and introduced new nano technologies that will be key to strengthening future mobility competitiveness.

Nano-coating technology, in which a vehicle heals the damaged area semi-permanently, is one of them.

As autonomous driving and electrification technologies become more advanced, the risk of damage to important parts is increasing. Cameras and LiDAR, the core components of autonomous driving Even if a small wound occurs, the vehicle will have trouble recognizing and judging the external environment. It is very important to secure wear resistance and durability of power components for electric vehicles equipped with large-capacity motors.

Developed by Hyundai Motor and Kia using nanomaterials, the "self-healing polymer coating" is the world's first technology that can return to its normal state in about two hours at room temperature without a separate heat source or a recovery accelerator.

Hyundai and Kia are the core components of autonomous driving: camera lenses and lidar Technology is being developed to apply self-healing to a variety of areas, starting with sensor surfaces and future road scenes of vehicles.
