[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, which spent 700 billion won earlier this year on expenses related to the settlement of ordinary wage lawsuits, will now be embroiled in a lawsuit over whether the performance-based pay is average wage.

According to labor and management of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries on the 8th, the Hyundai Heavy Industries branch of the Korean Metal Workers' Union (union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries) has started recruiting plaintiffs for the "average wage lawsuit for management performance" for members who settled their severance pay early or closed their business due to industrial accidents.

This includes members of the Hyundai Electric Branch of the Metal Workers' Union (HD Hyundai Electric Union) and the Hyundai Construction Machinery Branch (HD Hyundai Construction Machinery Union), as well as members of the HD Hyundai Heavy Industries union.

Performance-based bonuses have been excluded from the average wage calculation on the grounds that they are not uniform as the payment rate varies depending on management performance. However, the labor union of the Korea Airports Corporation won a lawsuit in December 2018 that demanded the company to pay the difference that reflects the performance bonus as the average wage when calculating severance pay, saying that "the performance bonus is also included in the average wage," and other corporate unions are also filing a series of lawsuits.

The labor union of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries also seems to be pushing ahead with the lawsuit as it believes there is a possibility of winning the lawsuit after seeing the court dispute situation of other companies.
