[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The Korea Development Bank's equity capital ratio based on the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) fell back to the 13% level.

According to the Korea Development Bank's third-quarter management disclosure on the 6th, the equity capital ratio based on BIS was 13.66%. It decreased by 0.45% compared to the previous quarter (14.11%).

Analysts say the fall in HMM's stock price was largely attributable. Shares of HMM started at 19,130 won (July 3) in the third quarter and fell 15% to 16,260 won (September 27). If HMM shares fall by 1,000 won, the Korea Development Bank's BIS ratio will fall by 0.07 percentage point. Simply put, the Korea Development Bank's BIS ratio worked under downward pressure of about 0.2 percentage points only due to a fall in stock prices during the third quarter. About half of the fall in the BIS ratio came from the fall in HMM shares.

The Korea Development Bank had a similar experience in the first quarter of this year. At that time, KEPCO was the problem. The Korea Development Bank is the largest shareholder with a 32.9 percent stake in Korea Electric Power Corp. The Korea Electric Power Corporation's performance is also reflected in the Korea Development Bank in accordance with the equity law. Accordingly, it also affects the BIS ratio.
