[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Paul Lee] China has introduced a new procurement guideline to remove personal computers (PCs) and servers equipped with microprocessors from U.S. companies such as Intel and AMD.

According to major foreign media reports on the 24th, China's Ministry of Industrial Information Technology (MIIT) released new guidelines on government computer and server procurement on December 26 last year.

The new procurement guidelines direct government agencies and party organizations at the incense level or higher to purchase "safe and reliable" processing units and operating systems (OS).

It also excludes foreign OS and database software, including Microsoft (MS) Windows, and recommends using Chinese products.

On the same day, the China Information Technology Safety Evaluation Center (CNITSEC) released a list of 'safe and reliable' OS and central processing unit (CPU). Huawei, China's largest telecommunications equipment company subject to U.S. sanctions, and Python, an CPU design company, were included, all of which are Chinese companies.

Foreign media analyzed that the Chinese government followed U.S. measures to replace foreign technology products with domestic ones and restrict the use of Chinese IT products by government-related agencies.

China accounted for 27% and 15% of Intel and AMD sales last year, respectively. Foreign media predicted that China's move to remove foreign hardware would hurt these companies.
