[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Unlike IlYang Pharmaceutical, which withdrew from Daiso following backlash from pharmacists, Chong Kun Dang Health and Daewoong Pharmaceutical have decided to continue selling their health supplements at the retail chain.

According to industry sources on Tuesday, Chong Kun Dang Health has recently started selling its lactobacillus health supplement, "Lactofit Gold," at Daiso. A company representative stated, “We have started gradually supplying 'Lactofit Gold,' one of the two products we planned to launch at Daiso. The specific release date for 'Lutein Zeaxanthin' is still under review.”

Lactofit Gold is priced at 5,000 KRW for a pack of 17 sachets at Daiso, while the same product in pharmacies is sold in a 50-sachet pack for 12,900 KRW. The price per sachet is slightly cheaper at pharmacies (258 KRW) compared to Daiso (294 KRW), but Daiso offers the advantage of purchasing smaller quantities at a lower cost. The price for the Lutein Zeaxanthin product is expected to range from 3,000 KRW to 5,000 KRW, in line with Daiso’s fixed-price policy.

Daewoong Pharmaceutical also confirmed that it will continue selling 26 types of health supplements at Daiso. A company representative stated, “There have been no changes regarding the sale of health supplements at Daiso.”

Earlier, IlYang Pharmaceutical withdrew from Daiso just five days after launching its products. The company had introduced nine types of health supplements, including probiotics and vitamins, at Daiso. However, after the Korean Pharmaceutical Association publicly pressured for the discontinuation of health supplement distribution and some pharmacists threatened to boycott over-the-counter medicines, IlYang decided to stop supplying once its inventory was sold out.
