[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] POSCO's labor union, which declared the breakdown of negotiations for wage and collective bargaining this year, has declared the resumption of negotiations with the company.

POSCO's labor union said on the 19th, "The representatives of labor and management decided to resume negotiations through a meeting," adding, "We promised to make efforts to ensure sincere and active negotiations."

Kim Hak-dong, vice chairman of POSCO, met with Kim Sung-ho, chairman of POSCO's labor union, later in the day and had direct talks on wage negotiations this year. It was reported that they talked about the company's difficulties and employees' needs and reached a certain level of agreement.

Earlier, the Federation of Korean Trade Unions' Metal Workers' Unions POSCO labor union declared the breakdown of negotiations between labor and management on the 28th of last month. The union demanded a 13.1% increase in basic salary, the payment of 100 shares of treasury shares for union members, and the establishment of a performance incentive system, but the company said the demand was excessive and coordination was needed.

In response, the union convened an extraordinary delegate meeting on the 6th and held a launching ceremony of the Dispute Countermeasures Committee.

Therefore, there remains a possibility that the union will bring up the strike card again during future negotiations. However, as the labor union has not yet applied for dispute mediation with the National Labor Relations Commission, it is expected that the dialogue will continue through negotiations for the time being.
