[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS) announced on June 13 that it has promptly and thoroughly implemented corrective measures in response to audit findings by South Korea’s Board of Audit and Inspection (BAI), which identified vulnerabilities in fire safety and security management at its liquefied natural gas (LNG) production facilities.

The announcement follows the release of the BAI’s regular audit report on June 12. The audit pointed out several issues, including inadequate maintenance of fire suppression systems, firefighting agents, and oil storage tanks; insufficient access control and security equipment management; and failure to comply with internal guidelines on performance-based bonuses and recovery policies.

In its official response, KOGAS stated that its LNG production sites are equipped with a variety of firefighting systems, including dedicated fire engines, ensuring swift emergency response capabilities in the event of a fire. The company added that the audit’s findings regarding equipment testing and reserve agents were based on KOGAS’s own enhanced internal standards rather than legal requirements.

KOGAS emphasized its commitment to operational safety and stated that all necessary improvements have been completed in accordance with both regulatory and internal expectations.
