[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] LG Energy Solution (LGES) has announced its plans to commercialize a new Battery Management System (BMS) diagnostic solution developed in collaboration with U.S. semiconductor giant Qualcomm. On Monday, LGES stated it had signed a formal co-promotion agreement with Qualcomm to market the SoC (System on Chip)-based BMS diagnostic solution, which is touted as the first of its kind in the industry.

This cutting-edge BMS software from LGES will be compatible with Qualcomm's automotive platform, the Snapdragon Digital Chassis. By leveraging Qualcomm's high-performance SoC computing capabilities, the new BMS aims to deliver unprecedented improvements in battery monitoring and safety diagnostics.

A BMS is a critical system that monitors parameters like current, voltage, and temperature to ensure batteries operate at optimal performance. Through this collaboration, LGES and Qualcomm have significantly enhanced the system's "safety diagnostic and degradation diagnostic" capabilities.

The advanced BMS collects a larger volume of data than traditional systems, allowing it to detect anomalies—such as potential fire risks—more rapidly. Additionally, its degradation diagnostics feature boasts computational power over 80 times greater than existing solutions, setting a new benchmark for precision and efficiency in battery management.
