[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] The prosecution investigating the suspicion of 'Tunneling' of KT Group accelerated the investigation today (4th) by summoning the president of the headquarters and the representative of the subcontractor, who is the core of the suspicion.
According to the legal circle, the Fair Trade Investigation Department (Chief Prosecutor Lee Jung-seop) at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office called in Park Jong-wook, head of KT's management planning department and acting CEO, as a witness earlier in the day for questioning. This is the first prosecution investigation on the head office personnel.
Park is practically the second-in-command under former CEO Koo Hyun-mo, concurrently serving as head of the management planning department and head of the safety and health department.
After former representative Koo gave up his second term earlier this year and even Yoon Kyung-rim, who was the next representative candidate, offered to resign, he took over as KT's acting CEO.
The prosecution believes that Park is at the peak of KT Group's reporting process that changed the ordering company of facility management (FM) to KT Telecop and gave work to KDFS, and is known to ask Park how the ordering company was changed and whether he was involved in giving all the work.
In addition, Hwang Wook-jung, head of KDFS, who is considered the core of the Tunneling scandal, was summoned as a suspect on the same day.
The prosecution is said to be questioning Hwang about the amount of orders and sales of KDFS since Koo took office.
KT Group has changed its work ordering company from KT Estate to KT Telecop since former CEO Koo took office in 2020.
KT Telecop, which became the ordering company, is suspected of driving KDFS to work that was handed out to four subcontractors, including KDFS, KSmate, KFnS and KSNC.
