[Alpha Biz=(Chicago) Reporter Kim Jisun] Workplaces with more than 30 employees must establish a labor-management council where management and workers consult.

However, many companies still make it on paper and do not operate properly, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor recently ordered LG Electronics to correct it.

While LG Electronics' production workers joined the labor union, office workers did not have unions for a long time.

Instead, the recommended employees have participated in labor-management consultations through an in-house organization called 'Junior Board'.

However, the creation of the so-called 'office workers' union raised a problem, and the Ministry of Employment and Labor issued an administrative instruction last year to create a labor-management council in which employees directly select workers' representatives.

Then, LG Electronics set up labor-management councils in nine business sectors, and there was a problem that it was impossible to negotiate working conditions.

The Ministry of Employment and Labor ordered the division of LG Electronics' labor-management council to be defined as an "illegal act that refused to set up a labor-management council" and corrected.

LG Electronics said, "We received government approval for nine councils last year," but added, "We will create a company-wide labor-management council according to corrective instructions."
