[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The value of used electric vehicles (EVs) has seen a significant drop, with fears around "electric car phobia" spreading following a fire involving a Mercedes-Benz EV in an underground parking lot.

According to data from the used car platform "Chutcha" on the 3rd, which analyzed the market prices of 20 popular electric and hybrid used car models with less than 100,000 km and up to six years old, all models except for the Kia Soul EV experienced a decline in value.

In particular, the EQE 350+ model, which was found to use Chinese Farasis batteries following the fire incident, has seen its 2023 model's used price plummet to between 57.9 million KRW and 68 million KRW. This represents a 44% drop in just one year compared to its original price of 103.8 million KRW.

Similarly, the 2021 EQA 250, which uses a Chinese CATL battery, saw a 2.7% decrease in its used price compared to the previous month, with an overall depreciation of 31% from its new car price.

On the other hand, Genesis EVs equipped with SK On batteries have shown the strongest price retention. The GV60 Standard 2WD, a pure electric model, starts at 43.9 million KRW in the used market, showing minimal depreciation from its new price.

The Electrified G80, the electric version of the G80, is priced 31% lower than its new car price, starting at 54.49 million KRW. However, it experienced a sharp 9.7% decline compared to the previous month.

Tesla's Model 3, one of the most in-demand used EVs, saw its 2021 Long Range model drop by 6% from the previous month. The Model Y Long Range also declined by 4.7%, with prices ranging between 43.4 million KRW and 50.49 million KRW.
