[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] On October 8, Kia's labor union officially approved a tentative wage and collective bargaining agreement. This decision came after a union-wide vote, marking the fourth consecutive year that Kia has reached an agreement without any strikes.

The second tentative agreement on the collective bargaining deal was approved by 63.1% of voters (15,466 members), while 36.6% (8,982 members) opposed it. Kia's labor union and management will hold a formal signing ceremony on October 10 at Kia's Autoland plant in Gwangmyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

Last month, on September 10, the two parties reached a first tentative agreement for this year’s wage and collective bargaining negotiations. However, in the initial union vote held on September 12, only the wage agreement was approved with 53.7% (13,243 members) in favor, while the collective agreement was rejected by a majority.

Following this, on October 2, both sides reached a second tentative agreement by adding key provisions, such as extending parental leave from 10 to 20 days, to the original agreement, which included proposals on extending the retirement age, expanding paid leave for family events, and widening recruitment targets.

Specifically, the agreement also includes plans to hire 500 new production engineers by next year. Other key points include a basic wage increase of 112,000 won per month (including seniority raises), performance-based bonuses of 300% of base pay plus 10 million won, a special bonus of 100% plus 2.8 million won to commemorate Kia’s 80th anniversary, an additional 100% plus 5 million won for achieving record-high results, a 200,000 won traditional market voucher for regional economic support, and 57 free shares of Kia stock.
