[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] SEOUL, November 18 — Comedian Lee Kyung-sil has come under fire after eggs associated with her name were found to carry a cage-farming code (“4”), despite being marketed online as a premium product.

The controversy escalated when fellow comedian Jo Hye-ryun promoted the eggs—sold under the brand “Wooa-ran,” linked to Lee—on social media, calling them delicious and highly recommended. The eggs are priced at KRW 15,000 for 30, higher than typical market prices.

Online users quickly noted that the egg-shell stamp ended with the digit 4, indicating a caged-hen farming system, the lowest animal-welfare grade in Korea. Many questioned why eggs produced under such conditions were being sold at premium rates.

Korea’s egg labeling system uses the final digit of a 10-digit code to denote the farming environment.
