[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Naver indirectly invested in the French AI unicorn 'Mistral AI' through anchor investments in Korelya Capital.

According to industry sources on the 4th, Korelya Capital's 'K-Fund 2' secured a stake in Mistral AI through investment, though the exact amount was not disclosed.

Korelya Capital is a startup nurturing fund co-founded by Korean-origin Fleur Pellerin, former French Minister of Digital Economy. In 2016, Naver and Line each invested 50 million euros, totaling 100 million euros (approximately 120 billion Korean Won), with Naver adding another 100 million euros in 2017.

Mistral AI was founded last April by former Google DeepMind and Meta executives, headquartered in Paris. They developed a generative AI chatbot called 'Le Chat' and have been rated as a rival to 'ChatGPT', receiving investments from Samsung Electronics, Nvidia, IBM, among others. Within just a year since its founding, Mistral AI has been recognized with a corporate value of 5.8 billion euros (approximately 8.65 trillion Korean Won).
