[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Korean Air's decision to reduce the number of flights on major European routes starting in August is causing inconvenience for passengers who have booked tickets during that period as their schedules are being changed.

This measure follows the European Union’s (EU) approval of Korean Air’s merger with Asiana Airlines, leading to the transfer of four major routes, including Rome and Paris, to the domestic low-cost carrier (LCC) T’way Air.

According to industry sources on the 20th, Korean Air plans to reduce flights to Europe, including the route to Rome, Italy, starting in August.

As flights decrease, Korean Air has been notifying passengers with reservations on flights scheduled for cancellation of the need to change their bookings since the beginning of this month.

As a result, some passengers who had booked European routes with Korean Air in advance are experiencing inconvenience. The industry estimates that around 1,000 passengers per week will need to change their reservations for flights to Rome starting in August.

Some passengers who had planned late vacations to avoid the peak season are reportedly expressing dissatisfaction.

Korean Air explained, “It took more time than planned to adjust the schedule due to the need to complete essential procedures, such as obtaining domestic and international operation approvals.”
