[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai Heavy Industries’s labor union has finalized its demands for this year’s wage and collective bargaining agreement, setting the stage for formal negotiations with management.

The union approved the proposal at a temporary delegates’ meeting held on May 12 at its Ulsan headquarters. The demands include a monthly base salary increase of KRW 149,600—excluding regular step increases—along with a 100% increase in bonuses and a profit-sharing scheme allocating 30% of operating profit to employees.

Additional requests include a KRW 2 billion contribution for the maintenance of employee welfare and recreational facilities, an expansion of the scope of ordinary wages, and new hiring initiatives.

The union also called for employment stability measures to be agreed upon with labor representatives in the event the company introduces artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

Based on the finalized proposal, the union plans to submit its demands to management and begin full-scale negotiations.

Separately, the in-house subcontractor union has also submitted its own bargaining proposal, including wage increases, recognition of eight working hours as one standard work unit, and the application of performance-based bonuses equivalent to those of regular employees. This follows amendments to the labor law that allow subcontractor unions to directly engage in negotiations with the primary contractor starting this year.

Both the primary and subcontractor unions of HD Hyundai Heavy Industries are scheduled to hold a joint briefing session for local residents on May 13 to explain their bargaining proposals.
