[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, August 2, 2025 – Hyundai Mobis announced that it has strengthened its global crackdown on counterfeit auto parts, uncovering illegal distribution cases valued at KRW 7.3 billion (approx. USD 5.6 million) through July this year.

The company has been conducting on-site inspections across Asia and Europe while working with customs authorities in South America to block counterfeit inflows at the border. Because counterfeit packaging and labels are often highly sophisticated, consumers find it difficult to distinguish fake parts from genuine ones, posing significant safety risks on the road.

According to industry data, Hyundai Mobis detected a total of 115 counterfeit distribution cases during the January–July period. These comprised 45 cases in Asia and Europe, where KRW 3.11 billion worth of counterfeit products were seized. In May, the company raided two local distributors in Malaysia, confiscating more than 2,600 items—including ATF oil, engine oil, fake labels, and packaging boxes—with an estimated genuine value of KRW 200 million. Local authorities were asked to impose penalties and suspend business operations.

In South America, Hyundai Mobis collaborated with customs in Chile and Peru to intercept 70 cases of counterfeit parts worth KRW 4.17 billion, preventing their distribution into other markets.

According to the Automotive Aftermarket Suppliers Association (AASA), counterfeit automotive parts cause estimated global losses of USD 12 billion annually, highlighting the urgency of stricter monitoring and enforcement.
