[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, July 2, 2025 — Hyundai Motor’s labor union will launch a three-day partial strike this week after wage and collective bargaining talks with management failed to make progress.

According to the Korean Metal Workers’ Union’s Hyundai chapter, the strike will take place July 3–5. Workers on both day and night shifts will walk out two hours early on July 3 and 4, and four hours early on July 5. It marks the union’s first strike since 2017.

Negotiations have stalled despite more than 20 rounds of talks since mid-June. Management’s latest offer includes a ₩95,000 ($69) monthly base wage increase, a performance bonus of 400% plus ₩14 million, 20,000 won in traditional market vouchers, 30 company shares, and expanded allowances. The union rejected the proposal, saying it falls short of members’ expectations.

Union demands include a ₩141,300 base wage hike, a performance bonus equal to 30% of last year’s net profit, raising the retirement age to 64, introduction of a 4.5-day workweek, and higher incentive pay. Despite the strike, further negotiations are expected to continue.
