[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] On the 11th, LG Electronics CEO Jo Seong-jin expressed his determination to recruit AI talent during a meeting with Korean correspondents in Silicon Valley, USA.

CEO Jo visited Silicon Valley to attend a "Tech Conference" aimed at recruiting AI talent for LG Electronics. The event was a company briefing targeting AI experts working in big tech and startups in Silicon Valley, Seattle, Los Angeles (LA), and other areas.

Jo stated, "We plan to recruit research fellows, executives, and leaders capable of leading teams," adding, "We are particularly looking for leaders in security, an area where many important trends are emerging."

He did not specify the scale of AI talent recruitment for this year. However, he remarked, "We seem to have reached a certain quantity (of AI talent), and now we need qualitative heavyweight talents," implying that mere numerical expansion may not be the goal anymore.

Regarding AI talent acquisition, Jo emphasized, "We believe we can offer a salary of $1 million," and stressed, "We should be willing to accept higher pay than mine."

According to data disclosed by LG Electronics last year, Jo's annual salary in 2023 amounted to 2.34 billion won (approximately $2 million).

He also mentioned that LG Electronics may consider performance-based compensation systems such as Restricted Stock Units (RSUs) commonly used in big tech when recruiting employees.

Amid intensifying competition in AI technology, especially among big tech companies, Jo identified LG Electronics as a beneficiary of AI.

He remarked, "Although the home appliance business is considered a traditional business, we have accumulated a lot of AI technology, and above all, we have hundreds of millions of units (devices) sold," expressing his expectation that this would be a powerful weapon for accelerating LG's AI capabilities.
