[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] HD Hyundai Electric, the power equipment and energy solutions subsidiary of HD Hyundai, announced on June 29 that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Bulk Infrastructure, a Norway-based data and telecommunications infrastructure provider, to collaborate on the supply of power equipment for data centers in Europe.

Under the MOU, HD Hyundai Electric will supply key power equipment including power transformers and high-voltage circuit breakers tailored for data center operations. The agreement grants the company preferential access to bidding opportunities in Bulk Infrastructure’s ongoing data center construction projects.

The two companies also plan to expand cooperation in the field of eco-friendly high-voltage switchgear, aligning with the growing demand for sustainable infrastructure across Europe.

Founded in 2006, Bulk Infrastructure currently operates five data centers across Norway and Denmark. In 2023, HD Hyundai Electric signed a contract to deliver ultra-high-voltage transformers to one of Bulk’s flagship data centers in Vennesla, Norway.

According to a 2024 report by the International Energy Agency (IEA), European data centers consumed approximately 70 terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity in 2023—making the region the third-largest data center electricity consumer globally, after the U.S. and China. The IEA projects that global data center electricity usage will grow at an average annual rate of 15% through 2030, more than four times the projected growth rate of overall electricity consumption.

HD Hyundai Electric views this collaboration as a strategic opportunity to expand its footprint in the rapidly growing European data center energy market, leveraging its advanced technology and experience in high-voltage power systems.
