[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Hyundai Rotem is exporting domestically produced high-speed rail vehicles to Uzbekistan. This marks the first export of its kind in 20 years since the opening of the KTX in 2004.

On the 16th, Hyundai Rotem announced that it has secured a contract worth 270 billion Korean Won for the supply and maintenance of electric multiple unit (EMU) high-speed trains ordered by Uzbekistan Railways (UTY), in a joint venture with Korail (Korea Railroad Corporation).

According to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and Hyundai Rotem, Hyundai Rotem and Uzbekistan Railways signed the high-speed rail supply and maintenance contract at the Presidential Palace in Tashkent on the 14th. This contract was finalized following the summit meeting between President Yoon Suk-yeol and President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan.

Under this contract, Hyundai Rotem will supply 42 trains (7-car formations) of 250 km/h electric multiple unit (EMU) high-speed trains to Uzbekistan by 2027.
