[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] October 19 — Apple’s latest flagship smartphones, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max, are drawing global complaints after users reported discoloration and fading of the devices’ rear panels — just one month after launch.
According to U.S. tech outlets GSM Arena and WCCFTech, multiple posts on the online forum Reddit claim that certain color models, including the “Cosmic Orange” iPhone 17 Pro Max, have faded to a rose gold hue within weeks of purchase. One user wrote, “I wanted orange, not pink. It started with a small patch, but over time the entire phone turned into a uniform rose gold color.” The iPhone 17 lineup officially launched on September 19.
The problem does not appear to be limited to a single color variant. After the first report, users of the Deep Blue version also shared similar experiences of fading and color shifts.
Reports suggest the discoloration begins around the rear camera housing and gradually spreads across the aluminum frame, excluding the matte glass center. Some users said the fading started after brief exposure to sunlight, speculating that UV rays could be the cause.
It remains unclear how widespread the issue is, and Apple has yet to release an official statement regarding the discoloration problem.
