[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] SK Telecom, KT, and LG U+, along with other three major mobile carriers, may face fines for collusion. The Fair Trade Commission announced on the 30th that it had sent a review report on the unfair and collusive practices of the three mobile carriers to them.
The three carriers are accused of colluding on sales incentives and trading terms and volumes in the mobile number portability market from 2015 to 2022.
The Fair Trade Commission estimated that the combined sales figures inflated by the collusion amounted to around 28 trillion won. Under the Monopoly Regulation and Fair Trade Act, fines of up to 10% of the related sales during the period of collusion can be imposed.
If fines are imposed, they will all go to the national treasury and will not be separately compensated to affected consumers. To receive compensation, consumers would need to file a damages lawsuit.
