[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul/Ulsan, August 28, 2025 — Hyundai Motor Co. has presented its first proposal in this year’s wage and collective bargaining negotiations, offering a basic salary increase of KRW 87,000. However, the labor union rejected the proposal, saying it fell short of members’ expectations, and demanded revisions.

At the 19th round of negotiations held on August 28 at the company’s Ulsan plant headquarters, Hyundai Motor proposed a package including:

A basic monthly wage increase of KRW 87,000,

Performance bonuses and incentives equivalent to 350% of monthly pay plus KRW 10 million in cash, and

The distribution of 10 Hyundai Motor shares per employee.

The union, however, declined the offer, arguing that it was insufficient to meet worker demands, and called for further adjustments.

Both sides agreed to continue narrowing their differences through a combination of closed-door working-level talks and formal negotiations.

The union, which has secured the legal right to strike, announced it will suspend overtime and weekend work starting September 1. A strike committee is scheduled to convene on September 2 to decide whether to launch Hyundai’s first strike in seven years.

Hyundai Motor and its union have successfully concluded wage negotiations without a strike for six consecutive years, from 2019 through 2024.
