[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] Following Kakao, Naver has also received its first corrective order from the government due to insufficient measures to prevent service outages.

According to materials submitted by the Ministry of Science and ICT to Representative Kim Jang-kyum, a member of the National Assembly’s Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Committee, the Ministry issued a corrective order to Naver on August 19th regarding deficiencies in its disaster communication management plan.

During a field inspection on June 11th, the Ministry found that while Naver had a system in place to register and approve work plans through its Task Tracking System (TTS), it lacked system-wide control features beyond simple approval records. The Ministry emphasized the need for Naver to implement an automated work management system to prevent human errors and ensure that only approved personnel and tasks are executed during authorized times.

This marks the first time the Ministry has conducted such an inspection or issued a corrective order to Naver for its communication disaster management plan. This action stems from the amended Broadcasting and Communications Development Act, known as the "KakaoTalk Outage Prevention Law," which expanded government oversight to include platforms like Naver and Kakao, with over 10 million users.

Naver has submitted a corrective plan, pledging to complete an automated work management control system by Q4 2024.
