[Alpha Biz= Reporter Paul Lee] The turnout for the April 10 general elections was tentatively tallied at 67.0%.
The National Election Commission said on the 10th that 29,662,313 out of 44,280,011 voters participated in the vote, recording a provisional turnout of 67.0%.
This included pre-voting held on the 5th and 6th, as well as residence, shipboard, and overseas voting.
The turnout for the general elections is 0.8 percentage points (p) higher than the last 21st general elections (66.2) and the highest in 32 years since the 14th general elections (71.9%) in 1992.
The 21st general election set a record for the highest turnout in 28 years since the 14th general election, and broke the record again four years later.
The turnout in the previous general elections was 63.9% in the 15th, 57.2% in the 16th, 60.6% in the 17th, 46.1% in the 18th, 54.2% in the 19th, and 58.0% in the 20s.
The turnout for the 22nd general elections is lower than the 20th presidential election (77.1%) in 2022 and higher than the 8th local elections (50.9%) in the same year.
The NEC plans to calculate and distribute the number of proportional representation seats after the vote counting is completed, and hold a plenary session of the National Election Commission at 5 p.m. on the 11th to confirm proportional representation lawmakers.
The final turnout is scheduled to be announced in the morning of the 11th when counting across the country is completed.
