[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] The United Auto Workers (UAW) announced on June 10th (local time) that the labor and management of Ultium Cells, a battery joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors (GM), have tentatively reached an agreement to increase wages by 30% over three years.

According to the statement released by the UAW on that day, the union branch at the Ultium Cells battery manufacturing plant in Warren, Ohio, has tentatively agreed to the proposed wage negotiation with the management.

The tentative agreement will be finalized following a vote by union members.

Workers at the Ultium Cells Ohio plant have been demanding wage increases since joining the UAW in December 2022, immediately after the plant started operations.

As a result, the labor and management sides reached a tentative agreement in August last year to increase wages by 25%.

Subsequently, following the simultaneous strikes by the three major U.S. automakers in November last year and the subsequent separate negotiations between GM and UAW, Ultium Cells labor and management have continued discussions on further wage negotiation.

The UAW stated that if this negotiation result is implemented, the final wage level is expected to double compared to the wages in 2022.
