[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] Hyundai Motor Group’s global software center 42dot has recruited a former NVIDIA autonomous driving expert, signaling efforts to accelerate its software-defined vehicle (SDV) strategy and in-house autonomous driving capabilities.
According to industry sources on May 26, 42dot recently appointed Lee Hee-seok, a computer vision specialist, as group leader for Vision-Language-Action (VLA) model research. He is the first external executive hire since CEO Park Min-woo took office earlier this year.
Lee previously worked at Qualcomm, NVIDIA, and Woowa Brothers, contributing to key projects in autonomous driving and computer vision. At NVIDIA, he led development of camera- and radar-based object recognition technologies.
He is expected to lead early-stage development of next-generation VLA models and enhance Hyundai Motor Group’s autonomous driving technology, “Atria AI.” VLA models enable physical AI systems, such as autonomous vehicles, to understand visual and language inputs and translate them into actions, offering improved contextual awareness compared to end-to-end (E2E) approaches.
