[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] The Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) announced on April 27 that signs of a hacking incident have been detected at two general agencies (GAs), including one large corporate insurance agency. An investigation is currently underway to determine whether customer information has been compromised.

According to the FSS, the hacking incident is believed to have occurred at an IT services company specializing in supporting insurance sales operations. The Financial Security Institute is conducting a detailed investigation and analysis of the breach.

The FSS has instructed the affected GAs to implement immediate measures such as system isolation and disconnection to prevent further damage. The agencies have also been ordered to report the incident to the relevant authorities. In addition, the FSS has directed the agencies to prepare to promptly notify customers in the event that a data breach is officially confirmed.

Furthermore, the FSS has ordered all GAs and insurance companies to conduct internal inspections for security vulnerabilities and to delete any unnecessary customer information.

If a data breach is confirmed, the FSS plans to establish a comprehensive support center in collaboration with the Korea Life Insurance Association and the General Insurance Association of Korea. The center will handle reports of secondary damage and provide information on related policies. Once the cause of the incident is clearly identified, the FSS will require the GAs and insurance companies to establish and implement measures to prevent recurrence.
