Hyundai Motor has recruited a former Porsche executive as its vice president to oversee Genesis and performance development.

[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Hyundai Motor Group announced on the 28th that it has established a new division called "Genesis & Performance Development" under the Hyundai-Kia R&D headquarters and appointed Manfred Harrer as its head. This move aims to strengthen the research and development competitiveness of luxury and high-performance vehicles and accelerate the transition to electrification.

As the newly appointed vice president, Manfred Harrer will leverage his experience in leading research and development at companies like Porsche and Apple to oversee the development of Genesis models and vehicle performance technologies within the Hyundai-Kia R&D headquarters.

He will also be responsible for the development of high-performance vehicles represented by Hyundai's 'N' brand. With nearly 25 years of experience working with major automotive brands such as Audi, BMW, and Porsche, Harrer has been involved in various aspects of technology development, ranging from chassis systems to software development and overall project management. During his tenure at Porsche from 2007 to 2021, he led the development of the Taycan, Porsche's first electric vehicle.
