[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Minyoung] Golfzon, the leading company in domestic screen golf, is facing the highest-ever fine of 75 billion won for leaking the personal information of 2.21 million individuals. This penalty marks the first application of the revised Personal Information Protection Act, aimed at strengthening corporate responsibility for data protection, implemented in September last year.

On the 9th, the Personal Information Protection Commission announced that Golfzon, in violation of personal data protection regulations, has been fined 75.4 billion won and imposed an additional penalty of 5.4 million won.

Last November, Golfzon fell victim to a ransomware attack by hackers. The hackers compromised VPN (Virtual Private Network) account information of Golfzon employees and gained remote access to the internal file server, from which they leaked files externally. As a result, personal information such as names, phone numbers, emails, dates of birth, and IDs of over 2.21 million service users and employees, representing over 40% of all members stored on the internal file server, was exposed.
