[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The strike declared by the Samsung Electronics labor union is not expected to impact the production of memory semiconductors, according to industry projections.
On June 2nd, Taiwanese market research firm TrendForce reported that the strike by the National Samsung Electronics Labor Union, the largest union at Samsung Electronics, is unlikely to affect the production or cause shortages in the shipment of DRAM and NAND flash memory. TrendForce noted that the spot prices for DRAM and NAND flash were already on a downward trend before the strike announcement and have continued to decline afterward.
TrendForce further explained that while most of the employees at Samsung Electronics' headquarters in Seocho-gu, Seoul, are participating in the strike, they do not have a direct role in production. Additionally, the strike is scheduled to last only one day, which falls within the flexible production scheduling range. Given that fab (production plant) operations are largely automated, requiring minimal human intervention, the strike is not expected to significantly impact future memory supply.
