[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] Korea's medium-range surface-to-air missile system, 'Cheongung-II,' often referred to as the Korean Patriot, is set to be exported to Iraq.

With this contract, South Korea expands its Cheongung-II export portfolio to three countries, following previous agreements with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in January 2022 and Saudi Arabia in February.

LIG Nex1, South Korea's leading defense contractor and manufacturer of the Cheongung-II, announced on the 20th that it has signed a contract with the Iraqi Ministry of Defense worth approximately ₩3.71 trillion (around $28 billion).

The Cheongung-II system has been developed since 2012 under the leadership of the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and serves as a medium- and high-altitude air defense missile system.

The missile and integrated systems are produced by LIG Nex1, while the radar is manufactured by Hanwha Systems, and the launchers and vehicles are produced by Hanwha Aerospace.
