[Alpha Biz= Ellie Kim] SEOUL, May 26 — A South Korean court has partially restricted union activities at Samsung Biologics amid an ongoing labor dispute over wage increases.

The Incheon District Court ruled that the union must not instruct members to halt key final-stage production processes during strike actions. The court added that violations would result in a penalty of KRW 20 million per incident, effectively enforcing compliance through indirect compulsory measures.

The decision covers critical manufacturing steps, including concentration and buffer exchange, drug substance filling, and buffer preparation—processes essential to completing biopharmaceutical production.

The ruling follows earlier court action that had already limited strike activities in these areas. However, after the union continued work stoppage efforts through measures such as coordinated leave-taking and refusal of overtime, the company filed an additional request, which the court partially granted.

The case highlights escalating tensions between management and labor, while underscoring judicial efforts to balance industrial action with the need to maintain essential production operations.
