[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] Foodmerce, the food distribution affiliate of Pulmuone, has issued a formal apology regarding a recent food poisoning outbreak linked to its bakery products supplied to meal service facilities. The statement comes roughly two weeks after the incident was first reported.

In a notice posted on the company’s website on June 20, Foodmerce CEO Chun Young-hoon said, “We sincerely apologize to the victims and all our valued customers for the foodborne illness caused by the ‘High-Calcium Strawberry Cream Roll Cake’ and ‘High-Calcium Korean Wheat Choco-Banana Bread’ recently supplied to institutional meal services.” He acknowledged, “Although strict hygiene and quality control should have been upheld, we deeply regret the shortcomings in our food safety management.”

The incident dates back to June 5, when two types of bread distributed by Foodmerce to group catering facilities nationwide were found to be contaminated with Salmonella. The affected products were manufactured by Mother Goose and distributed by Foodmerce. All remaining stock of the products in question has since been discarded.

CEO Chun also pledged to restore consumer trust and prevent future incidents. “We are doing our utmost to compensate the victims, including covering medical expenses and supporting their recovery,” he stated. “We will continue to take prompt and responsible actions for all newly identified symptomatic individuals who consumed the products.”

To strengthen its food safety framework, Foodmerce announced plans to increase the number of food safety professionals and enhance its hygiene management system.
