[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Jisun] The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) has taken action against four idol merchandise sellers—Weverse Company, YG Plus, SM Brand Marketing, and JYP360—for violations related to the sale of merchandise. The commission has issued corrective orders and imposed a fine of 10.5 million won on these companies.

According to the FTC's announcement on the 11th, the companies involved are responsible for operating the official online shopping malls for HYBE, YG Entertainment, SM Entertainment, and JYP Entertainment.

The FTC found that these companies violated the Electronic Commerce Law by:

Setting shorter return periods than legally required.
Refusing refunds if no video proof of the product's unboxing was provided, thereby restricting the right of withdrawal.

Failing to provide specific information about the product's availability beforehand.
The Electronic Commerce Law allows consumers to withdraw from a purchase within 7 days of receipt of the goods or within 3 months (30 days from when the defect is discovered) if the product is defective. However, if the product is damaged, used, or if the packaging of replicable goods is damaged, the right to withdraw may be restricted, and the burden of proof lies with the business.
