[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Seoul, September 15, 2025 — Prosecutors have requested prison terms for former leaders of the Liberty Korea Party (now the People Power Party) in connection with the “fast-track clash” incident at the National Assembly.
During closing arguments at the Seoul Southern District Court’s Criminal Division 11 (Chief Judge Jang Chan), prosecutors sought a sentence of one year and six months in prison for Hwang Kyo-ahn, current head of the Liberty and Innovation Party and former Liberty Korea Party chairman at the time.
Prosecutors also requested a two-year prison term for Na Kyung-won, a sitting People Power Party lawmaker who served as the party’s floor leader during the incident.
Hwang, Na, and 27 other lawmakers and aides were indicted in January 2020 on charges including obstruction of public officials in the performance of duty. They are accused of forcibly confining Rep. Chae Yi-bae of the Bareunmirae Party in his office and occupying the bill administration office as well as the meeting rooms of the Special Committee on Political Reform and the Special Committee on Judicial Reform in April 2019.
