[Alpha Biz= Paul Lee] U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff policies are expected to disrupt Tesla's U.S. production. The supply of Chinese-made parts necessary for Tesla's electric vehicles has been halted due to the 145% tariffs that President Trump imposed on China.

While Trump implemented these tariffs in an effort to reclaim manufacturing supply chains lost to China, foreign media reports suggest that the policy is inadvertently complicating domestic production for U.S. companies like Tesla.

On Wednesday, Reuters, citing anonymous sources, reported, "After President Trump raised import tariffs on China, plans to source parts for Tesla’s Cybertruck (robo-taxi) and Semi (electric truck) from China were halted. As a result of the U.S.-China trade war triggered by Trump, the mass production plans for vehicles that Tesla had been promoting as key to its innovation and growth will now face setbacks."

According to the sources, Tesla had initially planned to begin trial production of the Cybertruck and Semi electric trucks in October of this year, with mass production set to begin next year. The Cybertruck was to be produced in Texas, while the Semi electric truck was to be built in Nevada. However, the unexpected increase in tariffs by President Trump has put a brake on Tesla’s production plans, the sources added.

The sources noted, "Tesla was prepared to bear the additional costs of the tariffs when President Trump announced a 34% reciprocal tariff on China on April 2. However, with Trump’s further tariff hikes, Tesla’s plans to source parts from China have been completely disrupted."
