[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] Members of the K-pop girl group NewJeans have lost their legal bid to overturn a court decision that barred them from pursuing independent activities outside of their agency, ADOR.

The Seoul Central District Court’s Civil Division 50, led by Chief Judge Kim Sang-hoon, announced Wednesday that it has dismissed the members’ objection to a previous injunction that restricted them from engaging in solo endeavors.

Last November, all five members of NewJeans claimed that their exclusive contracts with ADOR had been breached and declared the contracts terminated, proceeding to pursue individual activities.

In response, ADOR filed both a lawsuit to affirm the validity of the exclusive contracts and a court injunction to prohibit the members from acting independently, asserting that their contracts remained valid and binding.

On March 21, the court ruled in favor of ADOR, fully granting the injunction that prevents the members from engaging in promotional deals or performances outside of ADOR’s management. The court found no sufficient evidence to support the claim that ADOR had breached its duties or that the trust underlying the exclusive contracts had been irreparably damaged.

Two days later, following a performance in Hong Kong, the members announced a temporary suspension of all activities, but also filed an objection to the court’s decision.

With the court now rejecting that objection, the NewJeans members are expected to file an appeal with a higher court in an effort to overturn the injunction and continue their independent paths.
