[Alpha Biz= Reporter Kim Sangjin] A Korean Air Flight to Ulaanbaatar Encounters Turbulence Over Tianjin, China…About 10 Passengers Injured
A Korean Air passenger plane flying from Incheon to Ulaanbaatar encountered turbulence over Tianjin, China, resulting in injuries to some passengers and crew members.
According to the aviation industry on the 5th, Korean Air flight KE197, carrying 281 passengers, experienced severe turbulence at an altitude of 34,100 feet (10.4 km) around 9:30 AM the previous day while flying over Tianjin Airport. The aircraft shook up and down for about 15 seconds, causing in-flight meals and other items on the seat tables to fall to the floor. Approximately 10 passengers and crew members reported injuries, including neck and back pain. The flight, which had departed from Incheon Airport at 8:10 AM on the 4th, had been rerouting around thunderstorms and lightning near Tianjin Airport about an hour after takeoff. Korean Air stated, “In response to the turbulence, in-flight services were suspended, and instructions were given to fasten seatbelts and remain seated.”
The airline provided anti-inflammatory painkillers to the injured passengers, and the flight landed safely at Ulaanbaatar Airport. Upon landing, medical personnel on standby attended to the injured passengers, and all passengers completed immigration without being sent to the hospital, according to the airline.
