[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] CJ Group has filed a criminal complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency over a recent employee data leak, citing violations of the Personal Information Protection Act.
The company confirmed on May 20 that it has reported the case to authorities following the discovery that personal information of its employees had been exposed via a Telegram channel.
The leaked data reportedly includes phone numbers, job titles, internal contact details, and photos of approximately 330 female employees. CJ Group noted that the total number of affected individuals remains under 1,000, and no sensitive personal identifiers such as resident registration numbers have been confirmed to be compromised.
As a result, the incident does not meet the threshold for mandatory reporting to the Personal Information Protection Commission.
CJ Group stated that it has individually notified affected employees and is taking measures to prevent secondary harm.
Industry sources suggest the breach is more likely to have originated from internal access to employee profiles rather than an external hacking incident, raising concerns about internal data governance and access control systems.
Authorities are expected to investigate the exact source and pathway of the leak as part of the ongoing probe.
