[Alpha Biz= Kim Jisun] SEOUL, November 6 (local time) — A freight train derailed at Yongsan Station in central Seoul on Wednesday afternoon, temporarily disrupting services on the Gyeongui–Jungang Line, according to the Korea Railroad Corporation (KORAIL).
KORAIL said the incident occurred at 3:36 p.m., when the last car of Train No. 3223, consisting of 20 cars in total, went off the track while the train was not carrying cargo. No injuries or casualties were reported.
As a safety measure, northbound Gyeongui–Jungang Line trains toward Cheongnyangni Station are passing through Yongsan Station without stopping, and ITX-Cheongchun express trains are currently operating only between Cheongnyangni and Chuncheon.
A KORAIL spokesperson stated,
“Non-stop passage through Yongsan Station will continue until recovery work is completed. The cause of the derailment is now under investigation.”
